The Rotas Serrinha do Paranoá (Serrinha do Paranoá Routes) are a surprising way to explore this special region of Brasília, considered a refuge for nature lovers. The unique journey to Sônia Paiva’s fantastic art studio belongs to Route 1 – Surprises of Córrego do Urubu.
The hostess carefully chose the experience “Cerrado: motivo para estampar” (Cerrado: a motif to print), which dialogues with the landscape and local vegetation. It starts with a moment of meditation to calm the mind. Then, the artist guides the participants on a path of reconnecting with nature and helps awaken their gaze to the forms of the cerrado. During the tour, you will collect leaves and flowers from the property.
Back at the studio, arrange your collection in the most interesting way on a tray lined with cotton-based paper and soaked in a cyanotype emulsion. From there, the process of printing monochromatic negatives begins, resulting in an incredible stamp in blue shades. Besides the artist, this route also includes a biologist – Karina Cury; a visual artist – Joana Prudente, and Caio Sato, who leads the cyanotype process.

(If the last tree falls, does it rise?)
Directing Class of 01/2022
is a performative short film with an environmental theme aimed at reflecting on the impacts caused by society on nature. It reveals our personal deaths, our connection with the surrounding environment and the recognition that we are the trunks of the trees. We carry the exhaustion of something unnamed, but that is evident. We have a lust for nature and life, which we are constantly destroying. We are the ones obstructing our own paths, undervaluing and failing to recognize our own nature and memories. For some time now, the Earth has been expressing the impossibility of sustaining human exploitation without any care for environmental preservation. This has also manifested subjectively in our desires, expectations, and cycles. It is about something burning within us as we burn on the outside.
Creative Journeys
Creative Journeys emerged from the meetings of the Confrarias do Parque de Produções, which took place in person for over 15 years. In the Confrarias, Sônia Paiva created and established pathways of support and guidance for individuals, aiming to assist in the development of their artistic expressions in a free and playful manner, making their artistic, intellectual and material resources available to participants. They are combinations of experiences coordinated by Sônia Paiva, guided by LTC researchers or invited artists/educators, bringing together cultures, methods and techniques to form learning journeys.
Dorotéia
For the production of Dorotéia: an irresponsible farce, the Introduction to Theater Techniques and Scenography classes of the second semester of 2007 participated in immersions at Parque de Produções, where sets and props were designed and constructed.
A large central panel of Our Lady of Guadalupe transforms into a boot with a change in lighting to illustrate the character’s obsession. Dorotéia’s costume resembles that of Carmen Miranda to contrast with the ugliness of her aunts, marked by their lugubrious attire.
The deceased character, Das Dores, was inspired by Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride.

“”I had an experience at the Parque that I carry with me to this day in my work as Art Director at TV Câmara dos Deputados Federais. I share this with my team, promote collaborative work and everyone participates, interacts and understands the processes. It’s beautiful to see how this reverberates and opens doors in other means and places. It’s an exponential work, necessary for our community. At the Parque, everything fits together very well and enhances the creative space. It’s rare because the word that defines Sônia is generosity.”

“The Parque is a special moment for me, it’s a treasure… a space for freedom of expression, research and experimentation. A place where I always replenish my motivations as an artist and creator. The rarest thing here is this space where we have free expression, without judgment, without restrictions.”

“Sônia, this plant reminds me of you! First she calls herself the mother of thousands, because of how she reproduces and you are a very generous teacher. Second because she is a scandal of beauty, a thousand ways in one. Each point like that becomes an adult plant.”
